Privacy & Security

No. Your files never leave your device. All processing happens entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. We have no servers that receive or store your files. This ensures complete privacy and security for your sensitive documents.
Is it safe to process confidential documents?
Yes, it's completely safe. Since all processing happens locally in your browser and no data is transmitted over the internet, your confidential documents remain private. We cannot see, access, or store any of your file contents.
What happens to my files after I'm done?
Files are only held in your browser's memory while you're using the tool. Once you close the browser tab or navigate away, all file data is immediately cleared from memory. Nothing is saved or cached.
Technical Questions
What's the maximum file size I can process?
File size limits depend on your browser and device capabilities. Most modern browsers can handle individual files up to 100MB and total combined sizes of 200-500MB. For larger files, consider:
- Closing other browser tabs to free memory
- Using a desktop browser instead of mobile
- Processing files in smaller batches
Which browsers are supported?
TextFileCombiner works on all modern browsers:
- Chrome (recommended) - version 60+
- Firefox - version 55+
- Safari - version 11+
- Edge - version 79+
- Opera - version 47+
For best performance, we recommend using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox.
Does it work on mobile devices?
Yes, TextFileCombiner works on mobile devices including smartphones and tablets. However, due to memory limitations on mobile devices, we recommend using a desktop browser for large files or when combining many files.
Features & Usage
How do I add a table of contents?
Simply check the "Include Table of Contents" checkbox before combining your files. You can customize the title of the table of contents. Each file will become a clickable entry in the table of contents, making navigation easy in the final document.
Can I reorder files after uploading?
Currently, files are combined in the order they were selected. To control the order, select files one at a time in your desired sequence, or rename your files with number prefixes (01_file.txt, 02_file.txt) before selecting them all at once.
How do I combine PDF files without losing quality?
When combining PDFs, the tool extracts text content from each PDF. To preserve formatting and layout, export your combined file as PDF. Note that images and complex layouts may be simplified during the extraction process.
Troubleshooting
Why is my file not uploading?
Common reasons and solutions:
- Unsupported format: Check that your file extension is in our supported list
- File too large: Try with a smaller file or close other browser tabs
- Browser issues: Refresh the page or try a different browser
- Corrupted file: Ensure the file opens correctly in its native application
The output file is missing some content. What happened?
This can happen when files contain special formatting, images, or protected content. Our tool focuses on extracting text content. For files with complex formatting:
- Try exporting as PDF to preserve more formatting
- Convert complex files to simpler formats first
- Check if the source files have copy protection
My browser becomes slow or unresponsive. What should I do?
Large files or many files can use significant browser memory. To improve performance:
- Close unnecessary browser tabs and applications
- Process files in smaller batches
- Use a desktop computer instead of mobile device
- Try Chrome or Firefox for better performance
- Restart your browser if needed
